Our Policy Positions
Treatment Advocacy Center (TAC) supports evidence-based policies that advance our mission of eliminating barriers to treatment for people experiencing serious mental illness (SMI) with psychosis. People experiencing SMI with psychosis are the most vulnerable to systemic neglect, with predictable but preventable outcomes that too frequently include criminalization, homelessness, and early death. TAC advocates for those who are undiagnosed as well as those diagnosed with life-impairing conditions that may be identified as a schizophrenia spectrum disorder, bipolar disorder, or major depressive disorder with psychotic features.
TAC is committed to transparency in the policy solutions we propose to address the complex and persistent challenges created by federal, state, and local failures to organize and fund a coherent continuum of care for people experiencing SMI with psychosis. Whether you are an advocate, family member, policymaker, member of the media, or interested community member, we hope this policy library inspires you to join our fight for meaningful reform. We are fighting for the lives of people with severe mental illness in a system stacked against them. We approach our work with a sense of urgency because for many it’s a matter of life and death. In all things we do, we strive to keep our focus on families affected by SMI.
